What is a Hose Reel System?
Hose reel system consists of pipes, pumps, water supply, and fire hose reels that are located at a strategic position in a building that ensures proper coverage of water to fight fire outbreaks. This system is operated manually, where one opens a valve making water flow into the hose that is at a distance of 30 meters away.
Fire Hose Reel Use
Fire Hose Reels are used to fight type a fires; wood, cloth, paper, etc. Their primary function is to provide a continuous and controllable supply of water to put off the flame.
There are different types of hose reels;
These are types of hose reels that can be carried along by firefighters. They are of lightweight and compact for more comfortable carriage and usage.
- Retractable Fire Hose Reel
This is a type of hose reel that allows the user to use it while it is still wound up. They are also referred to as live connection hose reels. They allow easy access and efficiency in storage; hence this mainly attracts many customers.
These reels are attached to either fire hydrants or fire engines where they are used from when fighting a fire outbreak.
How long is a Fire Hose Reel?
Most Fire Hose Reels have an internal diameter of 19mm and a total length of 36m while others have an inner diameter of 19mm and 60m long.
How to install a Fire Hose Reel?
Mounting
-Start by installing the edge at the top of the wall mounting bracket to the wall 1500mm above the floor. You should use screws of 8mm.
-Now attach the hose guide about 330 to 350mm in the side and 330 to 350mm down the center of the mounting plate.
-Lift the reel to the wall mounting plate and start inserting the hose through the guide and place the nozzle into the bracket. Connect the shut-off valve to the water supply.
Testing the tightness
-Now fill the hose with water.
-Open the shut-off valve and the nozzle carefully for air to flow out of the tube. When the hose is filled, close the vent. Inspect any leaks in the reel and the whole connection.
-When the tightness has been checked, the shut-off valve should be closed.
-Slightly open the nozzle to release pressure and close it immediately.
Finally
-Make sure that the hose reel is working smoothly. There can be made adjustments from the center nut of the coil if the hose is too heavy.
Attention.
When not in use, the shut-off valve must be closed, and the hose should be without pressure.
How to use the Hose Reel?
-If the hose reel is filled, break the anti-tamper seal.
-Turn on the water supply at the stop valve.
-Direct the hose to the required distance of the fire.
-Now turn the water on at the nozzle.
-Direct the stream at the firebase. Make sure to use sufficient water to avoid further damage.
-After use, turn off the water at the nozzle and rewind the hose then turn off the water at the stop valve.
-Finally, open the vent to release the pressure into a bucket and close it. After that, put back the hose into the holder.
